LG Display has announced the new technology OLED EX , a new advance for OLED-based display panels that LG will integrate into its new televisions from the second quarter of 2022.
The OLED panels are the best on the display screen market in terms of image quality . As its name indicates, this technology based on light-emitting diodes does not require an external light source since each pixel can illuminate itself, achieving practically pure black colors, an enormous contrast rate, extremely fast response and great design possibilities since its thickness is minimal.
LG Display is a world leader in the production and sale of OLED screens and this week we saw their most advanced proposals in terms of transparent and flexible panels . Now, it has introduced an upgrade for this type of panel that promises to improve the overall image quality of the screen and increase the brightness level by up to 30 percent compared to conventional OLED displays.
OLED EX, features
The name OLED EX is an acronym for ‘Evolution’ and ‘eXperience’, representing “ the company’s goal to provide customers with new experiences through its ever-evolving OLED technology ” says the company.
EX technology applied to OLED displays combines deuterium compounds and custom algorithms to improve the stability and efficiency of the organic light emitting diode, thus improving the overall performance of the display. Thanks to this technology, OLED EX displays unlock “ new levels of image precision and brightness to deliver exquisite, realistic color and detail without any distortion, such as the reflection of sunlight off a river or each individual vein of a tree leaf «, assures the manufacturer.
LG Display which has discovered how to extract deuterium from water and apply it to organic light emitting devices to make the screen emit brighter light while maintaining high efficiency for longer. Plus, thanks to LG Display’s ‘custom algorithm’ based on machine learning technology, OLED EX has more control over its own device.
The algorithm predicts the amount of use of up to 33 million organic light-emitting diodes based on 8K OLED displays after learning individual display patterns, and precisely controls the screen power input to express with more accurate the details and colors of the video content being played.
LG Display has also updated its designs using this technology, managing to reduce the thickness of the bezel from the original 6mm OLED to 4mm based on 65-inch diagonal displays. LG will integrate this technology into its new televisions starting in the second quarter of 2022, although we expect to see a preview at CES 2022.
