Sony clarifies its strategy on PC: staggered releases and priority to PS5

It is a fact, Sony maintains its commitment to bring the PS5 exclusives to PC . This movement has an explanation, and it is none other than money . Developing games is becoming more and more expensive, and to make the most of the investments made, the Japanese company plans to resort to these adaptations for PC.

Bringing PlayStation exclusives to PC is good for Sony from an economic point of view, but it has a negative side, and that is that in the end the users of said console lose that exclusivity that differentiated their platform , and they find that their games favorites will eventually be available to both PC gamers.

To minimize the discontent that this generates among PlayStation fans, and especially among PS5 users, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, has confirmed in an interview that the arrival of the adaptations of exclusive games on PC will follow an order staggered , and that this will be quite marked.

In the end, the idea put forward by the executive is very simple, since he has literally said that the fans have been in favor of a delay of between two and three years, and has hinted that this could be the general framework that Sony will follow. This means that when an exclusive is released on PS5 , it will take at least two years for it to be ported to PC.

That could become the general rule, but in the end it is clear that nothing would prevent Sony from adjusting its strategy based on its needs and the reality of the market itself. In this sense, it is important to note that, in general, most of the adaptations of current PS4 and PS5 titles to compatible ones have been carried out with an average time difference of two years.

Giving PS4 and PS5 players a two-year time exclusivity is certainly a major bonus. We might think that this would end up negatively affecting the sales of the PC ports due to the time that has elapsed, but nothing could be further from the truth, and that is that in the end they are highly desired games and most PC gamers don’t mind waiting.

What is worrying is the unfortunate technical finish in which some of these ports arrive on PC, and The Last of Us Part I is one of the most recent examples. This game was never meant to hit the market in that state, and despite all the patches it’s received it’s still giving serious problems.
