Microsoft has issued an alert to users and companies that maintain computers with Windows 10 21H2. This version only has one month of service left and you have to start thinking about updating it.
Windows 10 21H2 was developed under the codename ‘Sun Valley’, Windows boss Panos Panay promised it would be “the most exciting version” since the operating system released five years earlier. And it certainly was since it came after a disastrous release of versions that led to Microsoft delivering mere Service Packs. This version was the first of the “big ones”, it coincided with the launch of Windows 11 and delivered many new features, especially in the interface; new news and interests widget; Microsoft Store renewed; new task manager or GPU computing in the Linux Subsystem for Windows, to name a few.
It was certainly an important version that many of us stuck with for quite some time. But nothing lasts forever since as you know, Windows version updates have a useful life of 18 months. Thus, the Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations editions of Windows 10 21H2 will reach the end of service on June 13 , when they will receive the latest security update on the monthly Patch Tuesday.
In today’s world you cannot maintain a system without security updates. And much less Windows… That’s why Microsoft adopted the strategy that you update or I’ll update you. Thus, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for Windows 10 consumer devices and unmanaged commercial devices that are at the end of service.
How do I update Windows 10 21H2
If you have computers in this version, better do it yourself before Microsoft does it for you. The options are the usual ones. The easiest is to go to Windows Update and update with the latest stable version available, 22H2 . The update allows you to keep files, installed applications and user settings, although it does not hurt to make a backup before changing to older versions. From there:
- Go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update.
- Click the ‘check for updates’ button.
- Click the ‘download and install now’ link to update the version.
Another alternative. If you want to take advantage of the version change to clean up, you can opt for the installation method from scratch . To do this, download the ISO image from the Microsoft web portal , create the installation media with your preferred application ( for example Rufus ) and install.
And if your computer is compatible with the requirements of Windows 11, you can choose to migrate from system. You can do it from Windows Update or from the official page .
